Raising a Responsible Kid: Tips from Daycare

It should be every parent’s goal to help their children grow into responsible and conscientious individuals. Children who have age-appropriate responsibilities at home are more likely to become more responsible and organized as they grow up. Our daycare in Orem, Utah, focuses on teaching our students accountability when it comes to their homeroom duties. We incorporate this in our school to promote cleanliness, leadership, and teamwork among our students.

As a trusted local preschool in Utah, we assign students group age-appropriate chores that are easy to do and get the job done. For students aged 2 to 5, we usually ask them to put away books and toys, clean spills, and empty wastebaskets. For older students, we let them sweep the floor, dust, clear away tables after use, and turn off lights and faucets.

Some other tips we can share for you to do at home are as follows:

  • Make a chore chart for everyone in the family.
  • Instead of telling your child to “clean their room”, tell them the specifics of what needs to be put away. For example, tell them to make their bed, put away toys, and place all dirty clothes in the hamper.
  • Child care experts recommend showing your child how to do certain chores. Next, let your child help you do it. Once they get the hang of it, you can let them do the chore on their own.
  • Don’t micromanage. Utilize the “when/then” technique. For example, say, “When the pets are fed, then you may have your dinner.”

We hope these tips will help you and your child at home. For more child care tips, feel free to get in touch with span class=”comp”>Sunny Daycare today!
